Bouyiourdi, made with feta, is an irresistible and spicy appetizer (meze in greek). This appetizer served in a clay pot hot out of the oven with warm pita bread. This warm feta dip is a little bit spicy. Other ingredients include Kefalotyri or Kaseri cheese, spicy greek peppers and tomatoes.
Bouyiourdi was probably first served in taverns in Thessaloniki and the surrounding areas. It was eventually adopted by home and restaurant cooks all over Greece. As a popular meze it goes well with ouzo or tsipouro.
